THE MEDIEVAL CASTLE OF ERGEME

Clothing and jewellery

Little is known about the clothes of people inhabiting Ergeme Castle. Their belts had metal buckles; buttons, loops and hooks were used to fasten clothes. Iron horseshoe shaped taps were used to strengthen the heels of their footwear. Mentioning jewellery, only two bronze rings and separate glass beads were found, as well as a Revel shilling of Heinrich von Gallen (1551-1557) with two holes from a disintegrated necklace. Metal needles and a thimble were used for sewing and mending clothes.
